Abstract:

This paper discusses the spatial composition of Later Chalukyas in comparison with that of Hoysalas. In the previous paper, I presented the comparative study on the spatial composition between the temples of Later Chalukyas and Hoysalas in terms of the shapes, the walls and the arrangement of niches of the spatial units. This paper aims to clarify the characteristics of spatial composition adding the factor, i.e., the analysis of deities enshrined in the garbhagrha. From the viewpoint of religious background, the combination of the deities is important, especially in the temples having parallel and asymmetrical arrangement.
