Developing Your Learning for the 21st
Century

At
present, various disputes are occurring across the globe, and Japan
continues to struggle with a sluggish economy and budget deficit. With
both foreign and domestic problems piling up, there are those who say that
we are in an age in which it is difficult to see the future. Yet, when we
consider this current uncertainty against the backdrop of our constantly
evolving society, we will realize that, “change” ? by its very nature ?
results in the reorganization of those institutions and systems that make
up the very foundation of society. Consequently, the conventions that have
heretofore guided our thinking and actions, will no longer be applicable
as we move into the future.
In
order to successfully navigate these times of great fluctuation, the most
necessary and effective means
is, quite simply, to “learn”. However, merely acquiring skills by
studying design or being able to communicate in English is not what
learning truly means. Rather than focusing solely on what one is already
interested in, it is important to acquire a broader education by making an
effort to take notice of things that normally do not concern or interest
us, and learning about subjects that may at first seem to be of little
personal use. On the other hand, socializing with friends, participating
in club activities, and enjoying campus life to the fullest is also an
essential part of one’s learning. Through these ways, the skills,
knowledge, and insights that we gain will enable us to properly grasp and
flexibly come to terms with these changing
times.
Even though two years is a short time, students at Gifu City
Women’s College acquire the knowledge and skills that they need for today,
along with encouragement and support to help them during their campus life
and towards future employment. By deliberately and consistently making the
utmost of each and every day, students thoroughly gain the learning that
they need during their two years at our college.
At Gifu City
Women’s College, we believe that there is no time like the present. We ask
our students to discover something which can only be done now; then try
their best to achieve that before the chance passes them by. The entire
faculty and staff are working hard to help all of our students achieve a
rewarding and fruitful campus life.
